Here’s what AWEA said — it was sent by Bree Raum, her email is braum@awea.org and call them at 202-383-2500. Legislative is “3” but that was “not a valid option” when I tried, and I hit “O” and was transferred to legislative and left a message. Go to the top – Randy Swisher, Exec. AWEA Action Alert: Senate Passes PTC Extension. House to Vote Tomorrow. Contact your Representatives!
Urge Your Representative to Vote ‘Yes’ on the Economic Stabilization Bill which includes the Production Tax Credit (PTC) Extension.

Take Action!

Last night, the Senate passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, H.R. 1424, containing a one-year extension of the crucial wind energy Production Tax Credit (PTC) through December 31, 2009. The bill also would create a new investment tax credit for purchases of small wind systems used to power homes, farms and small businesses.

Next, the bill must be approved by the full House of Representatives in a vote to follow. The House is likely to vote late today or tomorrow on the Senate package. Your voices are crucial in order to clear this final hurdle before Congress adjourns. This vote is the last opportunity this year for Congress to extend the PTC.
Wind energy is not only a significant component of the global warming solution, but also a powerful engine in the U.S. economy. Since January 2007, more than 40 wind industry manufacturing facilities have been announced, brought online, or expanded in the U.S., creating over 9,000 jobs and $1 billion in manufacturing investment. When the PTC has lapsed in the past, wind energy investments have fallen 73-93% in the following years. We cannot allow this bright spot in our economy to burn out.

We need your help in ensuring that the House will support and PASS the Senate package that was approved last night. Please contact your Representative and urge him or her to vote ‘Yes’ on the Economic Stabilization Bill, H.R. 1424.

Dominion gas well fire is out!

September 30th, 2008

The Dominion gas well fire in Leidy Township, Pennsylvania, is now out, apparently having burned for over a week… but who knows how long it was burning before a passing pilot noticed it in the dark. I wondered what was going on because there was a HUGE uptick in my numbers for Pennsylvania, and it was all about the gas well fire. So I started googling to see what was happening, and not a word since September 19! Well, folks, a little more digging turned up some folks in the area who knew the scoop, and it’s been out for a few days.

This article from The Express:

Gas well fire is out

POSTED: September 26, 2008

TAMARACK – The fire is out.

The gas well fire that burned for almost two weeks at Dominion Transmissions Inc. was officially declared out at 8:25 p.m. yesterday, according to Dan Donovan, public relations director for Dominion.

“We installed a new valve on the well head and then closed it. That stopped the flow of gas and put out the fire,” Donovan said.

“Safety was a major concern. Nobody was hurt,” Donovan said.

A crew of firefighters from Texas experienced in quelling this type of fire worked with local officials to put the cap the well head, which shot flames high into the air and lit the night sky in Leidy Township for the last 12 days.

“Fires like this one don’t happen often. We needed some special help with this,” Donovan continued.

Now that the fire is out, he said the investigation begins to find out how it started and how much it cost the company.

“Right now we are trying to determine how much gas it consumed. There are no estimates at this time. We’ve also started an investigation into what caused the leak,” Donovan continued, declining to even estimate what the loss in dollars might be.

Donovan said the well where the fire occurred will not be used again until all the pipes are replaced.

He thanked local officials for their help, especially Clinton County Emergency Management, state police, state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Susquehanna River Basin

Only Palin…

September 27th, 2008

Only Palin can save McCain, her party and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Do it for your country.

Sarah Palin should bow out, Kathleen Parker’s column today in the Chicago Tribune.

Alan put this under my nose today. Kathleen Parker, whose bio says, “One can only stand watching from the sidelines for so long without finally having to say, ‘Um, excuse me, but you people are nuts.'” Ummm, yup, that about sums it up. When even conservative columnists wake up, McCain better be paying attention. I’ve got such mixed feelings about Pawlenty, I sure want him out of Minnesota, but with McCain so old, but hey, they’ll never get in anyway…

… so, Sarah, how ’bout it?

Obama toadying for coal

September 26th, 2008

A little bull sent me a distracting missive, more evidence on Obama’s toadying for coal gasification, calling it “clean coal.” Oh barf… supporting capture and sequestration that doesn’t exist, supporting cap and trade that allows continued spewing of CO2 by those who can afford it. grrrrrrrr

Obama talks coal in Elko, NV

and another:
Barack on coal in Virginia

Obama better get a clue about this. McCain is hopeless, they’re both falling all over each other to show who’s the bestest and biggest supporter of coal… scary for those concerned about CO2.
